July is Sun Safety Month
Sunlight can help your mental outlook and help you feel healthier, but too much sun exposure can be harmful to your skin. Use the following tips to protect your skin from the sun, avoid skin cancer and prevent wrinkles:
Stay out of the sun from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to avoid the strongest ultraviolet rays. If you need to be outside, find shade.
- Wear protective clothing such as hats with wide 4-inch brims, sunglasses with UV ray protection, loose fitting, tightly woven clothing that covers your arms and legs, and clothing made with ultraviolet protective fabric (UPF).
- Use sunscreen that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 or higher and offers “broad-spectrum” protection against UVA and UVB rays. Reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours.
