The value of listening

A humorous reminder about the importance of communication under stress…

John and Jim were hunting on opening day of deer season, when John falls to the ground clutching his chest.  He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are rolled back into his head.  Jim grabs his cell phone and calls 911.  Frantically he tells the operator, “John is dead.  What can I do?”

The operator says, “Just take it easy.  First, let’s make sure he’s dead.”  There is silence, then a shot rings out.  Jim comes back on the line and says, “Okay, he’s dead, now what?”

The lesson here is that when you are stressed and under pressure you can fail to hear what is being communicated, and the results can be fatal.
